Disaster Preparedness Are You Ready ?

Core Medical Imaging, Inc. recognizes the importance of disaster preparedness in the community.  Whether it's a small town such as Newport, WA or a large metropolitan city like Portland, OR, every community is depended upon to have a response plan that meets the needs of their citizens.

Core Medical specializes in digital diagnostic imaging solutions and leads the Pacific Northwest in the sales and service of Digital Radiography (DR) systems.  Typically DR systems have been placed into hospitals and specialty facilities; however this is beginning to change.  Some diagnostic imaging equipment no longer requires a fixed or permanent location, and the cost of equipment and implementation has become more cost effective.  This makes the equipment ideal for use in the event of an emergency.

In today’s environment, everyone should plan and prepare for every conceivable threat or event.  Our community’s healthcare providers should be able to provide and maintain the level of healthcare we are currently accustomed to receive whether there is an outbreak of the bird flu virus, tuberculosis, a natural disaster, or even a terrorist attack.

Fortunately, today we have the technology to move some diagnostic imaging tools to the areas of need.  For example, if an outbreak or emergency is large enough, it is possible that our public health officials may direct patients who need to be treated and possibly quarantined to an ancillary facility such as a school gymnasium or possibly a church.  Conversely, maybe a hospital may need to be quarantined, so the public health officials may decide to set up an Ad Hoc medical facility to treat patients who are sick but haven’t been affected by the larger emergency.

In either case it is important to have equipment that can be readily moved and easily placed into service in locations outside of a hospital. There are several pieces of diagnostic imaging equipment that could be delivered to a site.

Furthermore they are easy to operate, and with today’s wireless technology the diagnostic images can be sent anywhere in the region or the world allowing a radiologist to read the patient’s images.

Core Medical Imaging sells and maintains equipment (pictured at right) that have delivered this type of performance, which was demonstrated in the severe 2005 hurricane season. They are portable DR radiographic units, one of which is capable of operating at up to 32kW.  This is enough power to image most patients encountered.

Core Medical is ready to assist you by providing solutions for your disaster preparedness needs.
